Review: Carnaval Land
Gameloft heeft onlangs voor mobiel Carnival Land uitgebracht. In navolging op het succes van de mini-games op de wii (bijvoorbeeld carnival kermis) is Carnival Land een van de weinige mobiele games die ook veelvuldig gebruik maken van mini-games. 
Bij Carnival Land is het de bedoeling om allerlei mini-games succesvol af te ronden. De mobiele game bestaat uit twee spelmodes. In de eerste mode: Carnival mode loop je van mini-game naar mini-game. Je unlock de volgende mini-game als je de vorige succesvol hebt afgerond. Ondanks dat je in de Carnival mode niet vrij kunt rondlopen loop je door verschillende themaparken. Themaparken die je moet doorlopen om de Carnival mode uit te spelen zijn: Sport, Wild West, Pirate, Space en Candy. Iedere mini-game in deze themaparken zijn opgezet in de sfeer van het park. Al worden verscheidene mini-games herhaald in de verschillende thema-parken biedt Carnival Land een redelijk groot scala aan mini-games (14 stuks). Waaronder de volgende:
- Insert a coin (kwartjes machine)
- Whack an Animal
- Water Gun
- Basketbal
- Botsauto’s
- Schiettent
Alle mini-games zijn erg simpel en vragen geen jarenlange game ervaring. Ideaal als je niets te doen hebt en even kort een mobiele game wilt spelen. Omdat ik redelijk snel overal de hoogste score haalde (carnival wizard)bleven de verschillende mini-games me niet steeds opnieuw uitdagen. De verschillende beschikbare mini-games zijn qua gameplay hetzelfde en testen met name je “skill’s” op tijd en richten.
De tweede spelmode is de adventure mode. Deze is wat mij betreft een stuk leuker dan Carnival Mode. In de adventure mode kun je vrij rondlopen tussen de verschillende themaparken en de mini-games spelen die jij het leukste vind. In de adventure mode zijn overigens dezelfde mini-games beschikbaar als in de Carnival mode. In de adventure mode gaat het niet om de verschillende themaparken uit te spelen maar moet je proberen zoveel mogelijk kaarten te winnen. Deze kaarten krijg je na het spelen van de verschillende mini-games en zijn op hun beurt weer om te ruilen voor speelgoed (zoals pluche beren). Deze opzet van Carnival parken is niet heel bekend in Nederland, in the U.S. daarentegen werken Carnival parken vaak zo. Het spelen van mini-games kosten credits met de kans om er meer terug te winnen, deze kun je ook in de U.S. vaak inwisselen tegen prijzen. In de adventure mode worden al je prijzen opgeslagen in een silo. Dit aspect van Carnival Land is best verslavend, je wilt namelijk de héle silo vullen met prijzen.
Het kleine aanbod van mini-games op mobiel zorgde ervoor dat Gameloft’s Carnival Land opviel. Of het echt net als op de Wii een succes wordt betwijfel ik. Wat mini-games op de Wii juist zo leuk maakt is dat je ze samen speelt met je familie of vrienden. Helaas heeft Carnival Land geen multiplayer optie; dit gebrek is waarschijnlijk de reden dat ik na een aantal uur toch plezier te hebben gehad verveelt raakte.
De leuke graphics en de vrolijke uitstraling van Carnival Land maakt de game leuk om op je telefoon te hebben; rekening echter niet op dagen gameplezier of uitdagende gameplay.
