Review: Saboteur
De Saboteur ook bekend van de Xbox en PS3 heeft ook een mobiele versie ontwikkeld door Hands-on mobile. Er zijn verschillende games beschikbaar met de tweede wereldoorlog als thema echter stealth-adventure games in dit thema zijn redelijk zeldzaam.
In de Saboteur kruip je in de schoenen van verzetsstrijder Sean Devlin. Sean Devlin is een ex race-coureur die het Franse verzet helpt. Hij heeft uitermate goede skills in het dode van Nazi’s en doet dit het liefst sluipend. De saboteur start indrukwekkend; Sean Devlin zit op een Nazi marine schip vol explosieven en je dient snel naar de uitgang te rennen om te voorkomen dat je niet onderdeel wordt van de vele en grote ontploffingen. Dit onderdeel van de game is uitermate goed opgezet omdat je de druk voelt om snel een uitweg te vinden.
Na deze eerste scene is eigenlijk de echte actie van de game tot een einde gebracht en het vervolg van de game is eerder saai dan dat je je als een echte verzetsstrijder Nazi’s het leven probeert zuur te maken. Met vuist en stealth acties moet je het einde van het spel zien te bereiken. Je hebt dus geen vuurwapen waarmee je eventueel een paar Nazi’s kunt omleggen.
Uitgerust met een paar goede vuisten en hartslag sensor moet je via stealth moves proberen je weg door de levels te vinden. Zoals bij vele games gebruik je bepaalde actie buttons om te vechten, in de Saboteur ga je in de gevechtshouding door tegen je vijand aan te lopen, Sean Devlin slaat dan automatisch erop los. Deze manier van vechten maakt de gameplay erg simpel en zorgt er regelmatig voor dat je niet door hebt dat je aan het vechten bent. Ook doordat je niet actief op een knop hoeft te drukken voelen de vechtscenes niet realitisch. De bedoeling van de game is gelukkig dat je knokpartijen moet vermijden maar stealth kills moet uitvoeren. Naast de besturing voor de actie is de besturing voor de stealth ook niet al te goed uitgewerkt. Als je bijvoorbeeld in de buurt van een muur komt gaat Sean Devlin met zijn rug tegen de muur staan, ook dit gebeurt automatisch waardoor je niet altijd door hebt dat je in deze houding je vijand aan het besluipen bent. Helaas is het erg verwarrend hoe je weer los komt van deze positie om het spel te vervolgen te hervatten zoals jij in je hoofd had. Sean Devlin bezit een hartslag sensor om Nazi’s tijdig te kunnen spotten, jammer is dat je vaak alleen de voetstapjes ziet van de Nazi’s en dat voor de een of andere reden Hands-on mobile ervoor heeft gekozen niet de Nazi te laten zien. Je komt eigenlijk pas lijf tegen lijft te staan wanneer je in actie komt om de patrouillerende Nazi te vermoorden.
Buiten de goede start scene, heeft de Saboteur geen goede indruk achtergelaten wat jammer is gezien de kleine aantallen stealth games voor mobiel. Met name de actie en besturing schieten te kort in de Saboteur.
